  3. 💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🦴🐟 A #fossil from #Australia’s #Cretaceous #Eromanga Sea captured a rare three-tier predator interaction: a #pterosaur eaten by an #ichthyosaur, then both consumed by a giant #pliosaur called '#Kronosaurus queenslandicus.'

Researchers used #neutron #tomography to identify pterosaur jawbones in the ichthyosaur’s fossilized stomach alongside crushing bite marks from the larger #predator.

An article published in the journal "Gondwana Research" reports the discovery of an ichthyosaur fossil in present-day Australia that preserved the contents of its stomach, which includes the remains of a pterosaur. The ichthyosaur itself shows remarkable signs of having been bitten by a pliosaur, which literally broke its bones.

  6. The Kongamato, meaning “breaker of boats,” is a pterosaur-like cryptid reported in Central Africa’s swamps. Described with leathery wings, teeth, and a four-to-seven-foot wingspan, documented sightings span the twentieth century. #pterosaur #congo connectparanormal.net/2026/07/

  7. New #pterosaur species discovered in previously overlooked specimen of dinosaur regurgitalite.

The discovery also offers a glimpse into ancient food chains in the region. The regurgitalite is fairly clear evidence of pterosaurs serving as prey to larger dinosaurs.

Researchers found storm injuries during a baby #pterosaur post-mortem, solving a Jurassic mystery that was 150 million years in the making.

  9. Model of a Dimorphodon pterosaur skull on display in the Nottingham Natural History Museum, Wollaton Hall. This 1:1 model has been placed on top of an original copy of Richard Owen's monograph describing Dimorphodon. Specifcally, on a page that folds out to reveal a 1:1 illustration of the whole skeleton.

Direct Dimensions Laser Scanned and Digitally Modeled the castings of the 8-foot Pterosaur skeleton. Johns Hopkins' student Julia Molnar animated the fossil showing the launch sequence from multiple views and speeds, and also a diagram of the Launch Trajectory power output."

  11. 🚨 NEW PTEROSAUR! 🚨

Spathagnathus roeperi is a new ctenochasmatid #pterosaur from Germany! The holotype is the front part of the snout, with some teeth!

  12. New #Pterosaur Species Unearthed in Germany sci.news/paleontology/spathagn #paleoart by @AlessioCiaffi

A #NewSpecies and the earliest occurrence of the Gnathosaurinae (#Pterosauria) from the Late Kimmeridgian of Brunn, Germany: Alexandra Fernandes et al. link.springer.com/article/10.1

"Spathagnathus roeperi represents the oldest occurrence of a gnathosaurine and contributes to the range for the Gnathosaurinae [#pterosaurs] within the overall fossil assemblage of the #Solnhofen Archipelago."

  13. 🐸 Froggy Faces 🐸

    A little #Dendrorhynchoides curvidentatus meets a #Liaobatrachus grabaui!

This idea was inspired by a drawing suggestion my lovely partner made (almost a year ago now, whoops), where she said I should draw a lil #frog!

  15. 🚨 NEW PTEROSAUR! 🚨

Infernodrakon hastacollis is the first ever #pterosaur named from the Hell Creek Formation! (This guy coexisted with #Tyrannosaurus and #Triceratops!) 🦖
The only piece known from it is a single, squished, but mostly complete neck bone, and it has possibly the longest length to width ratio of any other neck bone ever!! 🦴🔥

  16. Pangupterus liui was a mysterious #pterosaur that lived in the early Cretaceous of China!
The holotype #fossil only has the long and thin bottom jaw along with most of the teeth!

I’ve reconstructed it here as a gallodactylid pterosaur because from what I can tell, the jaw and teeth look most similar to #pterosaurs like these! 🪮

  17. @meltedcheese Thank you!

    That's an interesting question.

For my research I'll be quantifying the hydrodynamic properties and locomotor #biomechanics of #Spinosaurus using a digital musculoskeletal model, predictive simulations, and then eventually #biorobotics informed by this data.

I'm not sure if the bones of #dinosaurs have made it into any practical applications yet, but there are studies on how #pterosaur bones can inform material design!

  18. Cycnorhamphus suevicus easily owned one of the weirdest sets of #pterosaur jaws!

It’s been interpreted to be durophagous, or specialized to eat hard stuff, but it’s also been suggested to be a filter feeder, a parasite cleaning specialist, and, most interestingly in my opinion, a #jellyfish specialist! 🪼🦐

  19. Sinomacrops bondei was an #anurognathid #pterosaur from China! 🐸

The only described specimen is crushed, but the head is preserved mostly on its side, which is normal for most #pterosaurs, but very rare in anurognathids! 👀

You might have also noticed the long tail!
#Anurognathids usually had short, nubby tails, but #Sinomacrops is special for being one of the few that has a much longer tail!

  20. “Frolicking Lingyuanopterus“ ✨

    #Lingyuanopterus camposi was a Chinese #istiodactylid #pterosaur from the early #Cretaceous!

The holotype has an almost complete skull and the atlas-axis complex (1st and 2nd neck vertebrae)!

Rare #pterosaur fossil reveals #crocodilian bite 76m years ago

The fossilised neck bone of a flying reptile unearthed in Canada shows tell-tale signs of being bitten by a crocodile-like creature 76 million years ago, according to a new study published today [23 January] in the Journal of Palaeontology.

  22. For this piece, I wanted to experiment with putting clothes on a #pterosaur! I think it adds some charm, but what do you think?? 🤔

This pterosaur is a #tapejarid called #Caiuajara, which is easily one of my favorites in the family!
