In case you missed it, a recap of my week. First, we should acknowledge that my irregular sleep habits and my lack of sustainable nutritional uptake fueled this week's technological adventure. I took my stock #ASUS RT-AX89X and flashed the #firmware with #OpenWrt. That was in itself a challenge. Then, after lots of failures and starting from ground zero countless times, I finally took this behemoth of enterprise hardware crammed into a consumer package and transformed it into the powerhouse it truly is.

I have full #WireGuard and #ProtonVPN with lots of bypass rules. I have a full #firewall with several special traffic rules. I set up PBR (Policy-Based Routing). I have #banIP and #Adblock — network-level and DNS-level threat blocking, running side by side. I have a full guest interface and SSID, a full secure interface and SSID. Special #DNS set up with #Quad9. I even managed to increase my storage on the router to 117 GB by employing extroot on /overlay.

I can now run the space-age version of home networking.

This was no small feat of perseverance — as much as it was brute force and stubborn willpower on my end. In my younger days this would have been a bit easier. Now my eyes do not see all that well, my brain really does not function correctly, recall of simple and complex protocols simply is not there. I use several search agents to assist remembering what I once knew. I had nearly an 80 percent downtime internet-wise experience going through this, which really complicated matters.

Then there is the human toll. I was basically awake and sitting in front of my laptop for the better part of the entire week non-stop. Not to mention my computer's failing keyboard and mouse that like to interject randomly. Then the fact eating nearly was impossible between the lack of actual foods and the ability to step away long enough to care for myself.

But hey, here it is Friday, and this disabled man existing in poverty took a stubborn, robust piece of hardware and transformed it into a powerful network routing machine.

Would I suggest doing this to anyone else? It depends. Are you ready to commit yourself to the insanity of countless trials and errors and the endless stream of forcing focus? I am but a simple failing human. Surely there are better suited for such an adventure. But I shall warn you, this is a labor of desperation and love. You must be prepared to commit to such adventure. But if you succeed, it is well worth the effort and knowledge you gain along the way. And no, do not ask me for help. I swear I pulled this off by the seat of my pants flying at Mach 9.

What it does: routes my main LAN through #ProtonVPN with bypasses for my server, email, and TV. Runs a fully isolated guest network with per-guest rate limits. Sandboxes my IoT devices with no internet access. Blocks roughly 33,000 malicious IPs and roughly 335,000 ad and tracker domains. Survives reboots, with a verified backup stored off-device.

A company truly outside Us Jurisdiction does NOT have terms and conditions concerning Us Customer and Us Laws, because they do not need them, because they do not apply to them. The same way, they do not need to include the other 200 or so, nations around the world.

It is rocket science. This is not hard to understand.

Oh, I am aware of your simping trolling behavior for Proton, but I refuse to acknowledge your nonsense on my old account.

You do not get to pick and choose what laws you follow, and only when you feel they are connivent. That is not how laws work. Proton does not list any laws or bi-laws concerning, the "France" (random), for example, because they could, careless since they do not apply to them. They're not a registered business in "France" (random). The same way, I and most people here, don't care about what the laws are in North Korea, for example. Because they do not apply to most of us here.

There are over 200 independent states or nations or territories, or whatever, but you don't see terms and guidelines for all 200. The reason for this is that a business, like a person, only cares about the laws that apply to them. It is not rocket science.

Proton sells products and services to people in France, South Korea, Germany, Canada, Etc... Etc... Just as you could sell digital products and services to these people, but you would not need to put terms concerning each individual nation for each individual customer, because it would be the responsibility of your customer to follow their own laws, and the only laws that would apply to you are those you are subject to. Again, you don't see any business on the internet, listing terms for all 200 or so independent states, or nations, or territories, or whatever, but you do see them including only the ones that apply to themselves.

Proton, is subject to Us-jurisdiction and that is why they include terms and conditions surrounding US Laws. They'll argue that it only applies to Proton Wallet, but again, you don't get to pick and choose, when laws apply to an individual, anymore than you can a business. But even if it were true (it's not), they could still be influences and impacted by the laws and governing body of the United States, since they were not immune to them.

In contrast, I and most people here are immune to whatever goes on in, North Korea (random example). I can freely write all about how awful Kim Jong Un is, even though it is illegal to do so in North Korea. There is nothing legally stopping me, and no one within that governing body could ever influence me to stop either.

Gave #Devuan one last go.

The GNOME #protonvpn client appears to work fine in xfce! DNS and torrent leak free!

The default Thunar file manager behavior is to not mount and not give the option. A pox upon.

So, sigh, I learnt how to mount in fstab with freetext creds in /root/.filewithcreds. We does it, but we hates it.

And now everything works! That's 3 of 4 Windows VMs I can now reimplement in Linux.

And for bonus points Devuan has been my smoothest experience with the #truenasscale implementation of #Spicespace. And I like the default GUI a lot.

#devuan is a champion OS for cool people and I am done with Debian and Ubuntu forever (at least until next week).
