This is a truncated cube, or a cuboctahedron. The dual polyhedron of a rhombic dodecahedron. Cool Archimedean solid!

This particular one is a 3x3x3 scrambled cube puzzle sitting on the Joker's "collage table" in the middle of Batman from 1989. The Octahedron (actual puzzle name) came out in 1981. I think there's one on ebay for > $100, so they are rare.

I am not sure if there is any significance in the scrambled pattern, but it's interesting to note that this is merely a normal cube with its corners sheered off, so it solves exactly like a regular cube. Perhaps that we are all human underneath the things that make us seem weird.
