CANYON FIRE INFORMATION

The Canyon Fire, which began the afternoon of August 7 near Holser Canyon north of the community of Piru, has burned an estimated 5,400 acres and is 28% contained. Firefighters have transitioned into mop-up operations, focusing on building and strengthening containment lines around the fire and extinguishing remaining hot spots. Overnight progress was aided by favorable weather conditions, and firefighting aircraft continue to provide support as needed.
Piru Canyon Road has now reopened, and the Lake Piru Recreation Area will reopen today.
The Ventura County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department are operating in unified command, in close coordination with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and other cooperating local, state, and federal agencies. Together, they remain committed to fully securing the fire area.
All current Evacuation Warnings have been lifted. Please use caution when returning to the area, as numerous public safety vehicles and crews are still operating in the area.

Night flying copters working near Castaic High School and Hasley Canyon. Two other helicopters there are local news stations. Most other radio traffic is routine shuffling of resources, sending strike teams to the base for tomorrow, and they were dealing with a minor medical issue. My last update tonight.
