Although, I did make the job a little easier for myself. I used a strip of white fabric almost 2.5" (~6.1 or 6.2 cm) wide, and put all the triangles on it, then sewed 1/4" (6 mm) seams down the long sides of each triangle, cut them all apart, then pressed, and trimmed. Here's a picture of the little tiny ruler I used to trim all the squares. It's a lot of work for such small blocks.

I got a little bored just cutting all my fabric scraps today, so I took a few minutes and pieced some teeny tiny half-square triangle blocks. Just wanted to try something new. I'm not used to making 1.5" (3.8 cm) squares. I have HUNDREDS of little triangles in various colors and prints. Maybe someday I'll use them in an actual, usable quilt.

I’m making some progress on my latest quilt. Those little 9-patch blocks I was making before have now been incorporated into larger 9-patch blocks to form a chain effect around the heart blocks I’d already made. I have three rows done and five more to put together before I can begin the actual quilting. You can read more about it at https://sandymike.net/blog/2024/03/27/sideways/.

UPDATE: More progress today! I was able to finish and attach the top and bottom blocks and borders, and I pieced the side pieced borders (same pattern as the smaller inner border, but different fabrics). I ran out of black to finish the side border panels (expected), but I should be getting more fabric in on Tuesday to finish the top. Then I have to figure out how I'm gonna quilt this beastie!

UPDATE:
I made some real progress today! I still need to attach the top and bottom rows of framed blocks and a top and bottom border, plus make the pieced borders for the sides and attach them, but I feel like it's coming together well! (some day I'll have a proper design wall!)I hope to get the large outer pieced border made tomorrow.

UPDATE:
Here's a few more photos of my progress so far.The top now measures 36.5" x 57". Not nearly big enough for a queen bed. I've got a lot more work to do on it, but at least the fabric I ordered came in!

I started a new quilt today. It will be a Christmas present for our eldest daughter, who requested a new quilt and picked out the fabrics.
The first photo is the center panel, which has borders attached.
The second photo is a sneak peek at some strips (and strip sets) that will be sewn into a narrow border around the center panel.
I'm planning a queen-size, and hoping the fabric I ordered will be enough. We'll see.

I think I need to amend my earlier statement:
These 114 blocks made *NO* noticeable dent in my scrap stash.
It will probably take me YEARS to work through my entire stash of scraps.

I spent about 40 hours over the past 10 days making scrappy quilt blocks. Once I decided on 6" square blocks, I managed to use up a healthy number of scraps and made 114 blocks.
The amount of scraps I still have is huge. These barely made a noticeable dent in the pile. 1/3

So far I have:
121 2-patch blocks 6" wide (by less than 6" long)
87 2-patch blocks that are less than 6" wide (by less than 6" long)
a single Flying Geese block (that's technically NOT a Flying Geese block)
6 Half Square Triangle (HST) blocks
2 "book" blocks
12 usable (more than 1" wide) scraps that I can add to other blocks or use to make larger blocks.I have no plan, or idea of what I will do with these. For now, it's just fun to sew these.

That was Tuesday's efforts. Yesterday, I decided on the size to cut the blocks, and got to work on the strip sets.
As it turned out, some of my "strip sets" were 6" long or less, so not really "strips", and some of my 2-patch "blocks" were 6" or longer. And more than a few of my blocks and strip sets were so big, I was able to fold them and make another strip set of them.

Playing with scraps this week. I started with strips and pieces, and now has these 2-patch blocks ready to go. I decided on 6" unfinished squares, as I was working with a 6" wide ruler, and that just made it easy.

My 3rd quilt project. Only the pieced top is done. I went off script and adapted the pattern to add those little corner 4 patch squares because I didn’t have enough of any one fabric for borders. But then I did, so I must have done the math wrong or the selvage direction cutting stuff wrong. #quilting #piecing #pumpkin #learning #quilt
