„[…] This means that in about 90 days, your phone number privacy settings will be honored by everyone using an official Signal app.“

I find the wording irritating if not alarming. It begs the question: What about „unofficial Signal apps“?!

I assume that this is just unlucky phrasing, but it would be nice if someone could confirm.

  2. It appears the stable version of #Signal 7.0 (with #usernames and #PhoneNumberPrivacy) hasn’t made its way to #Android yet.

    Is anyone seeing something different?

Edit: Signal 7.0.2 is now available on Google Play (and the Signal website).

  3. confused about #Signal's new #Usernames and #PhoneNumberPrivacy features? have I got two Wiki articles for you!
    signal.miraheze.org/wiki/Usern
    signal.miraheze.org/wiki/Phone
you're a Signal pro and totally unphased by these new features? please consider assisting everyone else by contributing to both of these articles!

and of course, if you don't mind, #PleaseBoost so at least some of the confusion gets resolved.

  4. @avoidthehack @Em0nM4stodon One thing I would like to comment about the #Signal drawback - revealing your phone number is indeed a big issue. HOWEVER, Signal has been hard working on usernames and #PhoneNumberPrivacy (aka #PNP) which are very close to being done, likely in the next major sometime this year. Once they are live, while you will still need a phone number to *register*, you will not need it to communicate - you can hide your number entirely and give people your username instead.
