hello, dearest PeerTube admins! i encourage all of you to upgrade your instances to 8.2.1 ASAP, as it adds the ability for your videos and channels to be indexed and displayed to a wider audience on Mastodon and other platforms!

Dieses PeerTube Update ist wirklich wichtig. Es fixt nicht nur eine Sicherheitslücke (abhängig von der Vorversion) sondern entfernt auch ein potentiell unauthorisiert installiertes Plugin, welches wohl darauf spezialisiert ist Zugangsdaten zu stehlen, insbesondere wenn ihr OAuth nutzt.
Das Plugin war auch auch auf Eloquer installiert. Mit dem Update ist es verschwunden. In dem Fall dürfte kein Schaden entstanden sein, da kein OAuth Token genutzt wurde, aber wer weiß wie die Lücke sonst noch hätte ausgenutzt werden können. Hoffen wir dass damit erstmal wieder Ruhe ist :)
Habt ihr eine Instanz und braucht Hilfe beim Aktualisieren? Die PeerTube Doku ist da eigentlich recht ausführlich, aber fragt gerne auch nach!

In case you missed it, there is a serious security vulnerability on PeerTube servers running server software older than v8.1.8.
You can see a PeerTube server's version by going to its website, then clicking "More Info", then "Technical Information".
If a PeerTube server you use is running older software, please ask its admin to update to v8.1.8 right now.
(The actual vulnerability was removed in v8.1.6, but v8.1.8 also removes any attacks that began before that.)

If you run your own PeerTube server, you can use it for more than just your own videos!
You can also federate videos from other servers, so they appear seamlessly alongside your own videos. More info about how to do this in this guide:

Do you run your own PeerTube server? Does it seem a bit empty? You can solve this by showing videos from other servers too, here's a guide:

The guide also includes a list of recommended servers you might want to federate to your server. (You can also just federate specific accounts/channels if you don't want to federate an entire server's content.)
Federating doesn't take up space on your server, the video files remain on the other server.

I managed to fix the HTTP import on #FloofTube (https://flooftube.net) last night! :blobfoxhappy:
It'd been down since 1st January 2026 and I found out the HTTP proxy details had changed.
That said, the proxy still runs at 56 KB/s so it can only download 1 video at a time. That might sound slow (because it is :blobfoxcomputerohno: ) , YouTube's designed to blacklist anyone trying to download videos (without ads) so it has to use a slow proxy to workaround it.
If you're uploading to FloofTube, it's recommended to upload directly. :blobfoxthumbsup:
If you have a large batch of videos to upload, you could always send me an online storage link with the high res videos (DM me here) and I'll upload them for you (add me as an editor to the channel and remove me once complete). I can upload them on a 10Gbps link to the server, but it'll still be bottle-necked by the encoder trying to create the different resolutions.
Wish there were more offline import options like being able to manually import the yt-dlp metadata with the video...

PeerTube admins, do you want your playlists to show the newest videos at the top? This is possible if you install the "Playlist reverse order" plugin from Settings > Plugins/Themes > Search Plugins
I recommend setting it to just one account when you're trying it. Some of your members may have manually sorted playlists they don't want messed up.
It can also be set to automatically remove deleted or private videos. These are removed when playlists are next updated.

PeerTube admins,
You can now very easily customise your PeerTube website to have your own logos, banners, icons, headers, default theme (including dark/light defaults), colours, menu styles, extra themes, CSS tweaks etc.
All this is now in the GUI, no need for coding!
Log into your site with your admin account, then go to:
Settings > Logo (for logos, icons, banners)
Settings > Plugins/Themes > Search Themes (for extra themes)
Settings > Customisation (for everything else)

You can follow these servers to fill your PeerTube site with good videos without it using up any of your server's storage space (the videos themselves remain on their hosting servers).

The search engine itself is at https://sepiasearch.org and is integrated on many servers.

Hey people who run their own PeerTube servers 👋
There is a little-publicised feature in PeerTube which lets servers subscribe to a shared "allowlist" of good servers to federate with. (You can also manually federate with additional servers that aren't on the list.)
Would there be any interest in setting up such a shared list so that PeerTube admins can easily find other nice/safe servers to federate with?

PeerTube admins running a public server,
There is an option for you to moderate all of the videos your members upload before they are published:
1. Log into your admin account
2. Go to Settings > Basic
3. Scroll down to "Videos" section and tick box "Block new videos automatically"
4. Click "Update configuration" button at bottom of screenThis lets you keep tabs on what your members publish. You can also mark members as trusted if screening isn't needed.

Hey PeerTube admins who have redundancies switched on, can I ask a favour?
I have uploaded a classic anti-fascist video called "Don't be a sucker", and it's had a fair amount of viewers:

Would appreciate redundancies for this as it sometimes gets high spikes in viewers that overwhelm the usual p2p system.
(By the way, for anyone watching the video, it's mainly aimed at getting conservatives to realise why fascism is a horrific idea, and to get them to turn away from fascism. The idea is to reach those most likely to fall for fascism.)
