I'm very fond of Jean Rollin’s late films like Dracula's Fiancee (2002). They have a magical vibe, reminiscent of magic realism with no attempt to explain the magical elements. Once again Rollin creates a whole new mythology. Mesmerising stuff.

The Moving Finger, a now totally forgotten 1963 crime thriller set in the Greenwich Village beatnik scene (that scene becomes the film's main focus). It starts with a bank robbery gone wrong. An engagingly oddball movie that's rather fun.

Sergio Corbucci's The Slave is a 1962 peplum with a Roman Empire setting. It's about the son of Spartacus. The Romans are definitely the bad guys. Steve Reeves makes a fine hero. Visually impressive and entertaining despite the flawed ending.

Pupi Avati's The House with Laughing Windows (1976) concerns a series of murders linked somehow to a frightening fresco painted by a mad artist. I wasn’t totally sold on this film but I did like the slightly off-kilter stylistic approach.

Star Slammer (AKA Prison Ship) is a 1986 Fred Olen Ray movie so you know it will be crazy goofy fun. A women-in-prison movie set on a prison spaceship but done in good-natured tongue-in-cheek fashion. Fun and silly and exciting and amusing.

Mad Doctor of Blood Island (1968), a low-budget Philippines-shot horror film with a vague Island of Dr Moreau mad scientist vibe, and green-blooded monsters. Good monster makeup. Unashamedly lurid and trashy and schlocky and I enjoyed it.
