I'm a "Boomer" and I've never heard the phrase "out of pocket" used to mean that the speaker would be "out of the office" or that someone is "acting crazy or out of hand."

I always understood it to mean that I'd be paying for whatever it is myself -- ie., "out of pocket." 🤷‍♂️

The meanings of words change with the generations .

So, the "out of the office"usage must be a Millienial thing and "acting crazy" the meaning that Gen Z gives to it now.
