So the Oxford University Press Word of the year is "rage bait" which narrowly fought off aura farming and biohack. Last year it was brainrot. Humanity's relationship with social media clearly isn't healthy. We need to show more discernment in our reading procurement. I would rather ask a librarian rather than Musk's or Zuckerberg's algorithms what to read next. An hour in your local library beats an hour scrolling. I do not get it. Why should I (or my institution) pay for this? Why isn't it possible to read the normal PDFs online? Why do they put the cut out figures into their PDFs?Why this small font?
I guess the idea is that they want to sell the physical book to me. But I have a complete room full of books. I do not want any further paper books. I want nice looking searchable PDFs on my hard disk.
And why can't I download the book in one go? #OUP is really unsexy as a publisher. -
Bloddy hell! This is a long time without copy right restrictions. Russel 1905. And they still want to get 40€ from me. This is robbery. By a charity company like #OUP.

For those interested in #musichistory and especially in how the work of Charles Bernay was to the myth of 'superior' Western Classical Tradition [sic] (because there was none) what the Rosetta Stone was to the Bible-thumpers. Not that it changed anyone's mind, mind you.
My favourite part is where James T Cook decided the fiddler was the better envoy on his Pacific Trade Missions. The Devil does indeed have the better tunes.
