From our friends at #OrbitResearch: "We are writing this message to address an issue that happened in early March with the JAWS for Windows screen reader impacting our Braille displays.
There was an update released in early March, with some significant Braille changes under the hood, version 2025.2503.9.

Unfortunately, this update broke functionality for our existing Braille displays, causing many key combinations not to perform as expected. In addition, this update also added very partial support for our newer products using the HID-Braille protocol, that has only allowed basic Braille output, even without navigation.

Following this issue, a hotfix released by Vispero, as JAWS 2025 version 2025.2503.39 restores the functionality for our Braille display products that have been already working with JAWS using the older driver and fixes the key mapping issue for existing products.
The issue related to the newer support using the HID protocol is still being worked on.
We are kindly asking all users to make sure you have this update installed for your Orbit Reader 20, 20 Plus, or 40 to function properly.

We are working with Vispero to make sure that the next JAWS update will include proper support for our devices using the latest JAWS features, such as BrailleIn, and many others, over USB using the HID-Braille protocol. This will apply to the Orbit Reader Q family of displays, the Orbit Slate series, as well as dramatically improve functionality of existing devices.

This would make me leary about thinking of this #Optima, even as it sounds like a great concept, after dealing with sending the #Orbit20 in twice for repairs, and after the second repair, where cells were supposedly replaced, and over $200 paid for that, dots start ghosting again, not even a month after,, I'd be less inclined to consider this project until I find out that the failure rate has truly gone down significantly. #OrbitResearch.

#OrbitResearch should release a #BrailleDisplay that splits the difference between the #orbitReader20Plus and the #orbitreader40 but with all the best features of all their main products, so usb-c, cursor routing, haptics and speech, wifi, address book, etc, split the cells and price as well and make it a 30 cell for $1199.

@miki #OrbitResearch already has easily replaceable batteries in all of their #BrailleDisplay and most of their other products as far as I know. However the #orbitreader20 and #orbitReader20Plus do not use USB-C which is another problem they would need to address.
