It has been an exhausting day, and I am furious that fighting for basic accessibility is still an everyday requirement in 2026. While transferring institutions to finish my degree, I have encountered insurmountable barriers simply trying to enrol in a single unit at the University of Canberra. Navigating via Windows leaves me stranded immediately because the student portal login button contains no actionable link for my screen reader. Attempting the process on my iPad using Safari allows me to authenticate, yet the interface fails to present the plus button required to add units. Switching to Chrome on the same device brings up the pre.enrolment agreement, but the necessary checkbox refuses to toggle when clicked.
University staff keep requesting a live meeting to troubleshoot, which feels like an entirely futile exercise after explaining the exact technical flaws in detail. The reality is that institutional support teams rarely understand assistive technology, leaving blind students to perform unpaid diagnostic labour for broken systems. Basic administrative workflows should never require multiple operating systems and browsers just to fail at every turn. Dealing with inaccessible higher education software drains time and focus away from actual academic study, making me seriously reconsider whether transferring is worth this immense frustration.

I wrote this post a few days ago when I had $22 to my name. Well, I now have only $1.40 to my name, and my Ollama Cloud Max bill is due today. I tried to chat with my Hermes agent this morning and got a billing error. I use AI for everything, from help communicating and dealing with my severe executive dysfunction, to health tracking and planning for my many doctor appointments, to developing NVDA add-ons and writing, so I'm not looking forward to being without it, and I don't know how long it will be until I get paid. I'm doing usability testing gigs as I get them, but payment for jobs I've completed is at least a few days away.

New NVDA add-on: WindowState. Press NVDA+Shift+T to hear if your foreground window is maximized, restored, minimized, or snapped to a side or quarter of the screen. Optionally appends the state to NVDA+T like JAWS does.
I built this because pressing Windows+Up Arrow to maximize a window sometimes triggers the Windows 11 snap chooser instead, and NVDA doesn't tell you which one happened. There's no way to just ask "is this window maximized?" without trying to resize and listening to what changed. Now there is.
Requires NVDA 2026.1+. Free and open source.

Today I built an NVDA add-on: WordPredictor.
It watches what you type and predicts the next word using n-gram analysis. Predictions are announced through NVDA's own speech engine. No external TTS, no clipboard pasting, no mouse required.
Features:
I built this because Lightkey Pro AT doesn't work well with NVDA. Gestures conflict, system-wide mode requires mouse clicking, and words get mangled when pasting. This add-on works inside NVDA instead of against it.
