PS: Sorry for dead-naming, the piece of #FOSS software we all knew as "Puppet" is called #OpenVox now, but the 'Chucky' wordplay does not work with that :/

PPS: The the company owning the "Puppet" trademark (but not the project/sources) rug-pulled the community and made their fork closed source. Everyone should have switched to (fully compatible) #OpenVox by now.

It was a great day at VoxConf + Foreman Birthday 2026 🎉

#OpenSource #community is such a powerful thing. Yesterday when we published the #OpenVox 9.0 #beta, the signing pipeline failed for the Windows packages. It turned out to be an upstream problem with jsign, and overnight someone else found and fixed the problem. We had a very special guest at #VoxConf today. @lkanies, the original #Puppet author and founder of PuppetLabs, spent some time with us at dinner last night and then shared some perspectives of this amazing journey -- from Blink to Puppet, and now #OpenVox.

It’s very cool to be at the VoxConf 2026. I just came by briefly to say hi.

I did a quick summary of what my goals were when I started Puppet, back in2005:
- Sysadmins should use software written by sysadmins
- Sysadmins should have a seat at the table, not just have code thrown over the wall
- The job of system administration should change from manual, one-off work to strategic, high level, automated work

It’s great to see the community working to build a strong, viable community around a truly open project and toolchain
