I think the #OpenSeaMap depth initiative has one fatal flaw: It expects user to remember manually and periodically upload track data from an SD card to laptop and from laptop to the https://depth.openseamap.org/ system.

Instead, the data logger (esp if using dedicated HW) should have the vessel data (and other stuff what is needed) as configs, and the upload should be buffered and when connected batched....

Today, I learned that #OpenSeaMap, a free nautical database using #OpenStreetMap data, has an initiative that gathers depth sounding tracks to derive contours from calculated underwater digital elevation models.

Oui, c'est la même approche mais avec des «informations nautiques et touristiques susceptibles d'intérésser les plaisanciers. »
Donc non seulement le #format du nom est similaire, mais l'approche aussi !
