The final graph session, then the leap to hybrid AI:

▸ OWL — complex classes & property restrictions
    ▸ SHACL Shapes
▸ Neurosymbolic AI with KG embeddings, RAG,
▸ AI limits revisited (ELIZA, Clever Hans, Chinese Room, Turing Test, the paperclip maximiser & the singularity).

Neither symbols nor learning alone get us there. 📡 SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY…

  11. This Stanford #HCI seminar,
    Toward Ontological Multiplicity…
Begins naming the challenge (I might go so far as to call it the visceral pain I feel) with language. It defines #ontologies as
"what we allow ourselves to think or talk about, or deem possible."
Translating abstract thought into language just requires such loss. Speech just naturally seems to require an element of grief over how little can be communicated.

  21. The new #KDAI2026 lecture is out. How to get from a sentence to something a machine can actually reason?

The greenhouse effect was discovered by Fourier, explained by Eunice Newton Foote. 3 words, 1 triple: subject, predicate, object. Stack enough of them and you get a graph. Add an ontology and the machine starts to infer.

    This session:

Some human-centred practitioners have been consigned to increasingly superficial considerations. Artificial intelligence presents an opportunity for us to bring the focus back to the fundamentals that make our work important and successful.

  31. LintedData 3.0.0 is released:
    ➡️ gitlab.com/dlr-dw/linteddata/-

LintedData is a linter for RDF and Ontologies for easy use in CI pipelines. It checks for common violations of best practices in ontology engineering.

Version 3.0.0 enables checking of multiple RDF files with one execution, reduces the need for configuration, and improves or fixes many checks.

  36. A quick #introduction using an obscene number of hashtags to hopefully reach people I want to be in community with! I make #art and #software and particularly like #linocuts and #embroidery and I also enjoy #visiblemending.

On the tech side my pet topics are currently #datavis (currently looking at #publictransport in my area) and #rdf #ontologies (what can we practically and ethically do with them?)

Would love to follow you if you're interested in any of these things.

  51. Recently, I was discussing about the pros and cons of different unit ontologies. However, I was not able to really express, why I am in favor of an ontology, which not only provides the direct conversion factors between units for direct application, but also provides the explanation for these values. In her keynote, Maria-Esther Vidal provided an explanation for my intuition (free after Aristotle): "We think we know a thing only when we know its cause."
