>And this is exactly why Linux distributions have been distributing ISOs using torrents for years. Aside from the sort of piracy thing, that's the other thing that BitTorrent gets used a lot for, and it means that the small organizations throwing up their own Linux distro can distribute it without it completely crashing their tiny servers.
You're not wrong :P Pic related. It annoys me that #tails @tails recently moved away from having torrents as a form of downloading.
>Yeah, it makes me, think about, and something I've thought about before but haven't really explored is you know how when you go on Archive.org and there's a file, and one of your options is just to download a torrent. Why don't we do that for institutional repositories and data repositories?
That's one of my favourite parts of the Internet Archive :D
>Because those are starting to get big. I mean, I know one of the reasons is because, like, we use proprietary software for our institutional repository and Clarabate and Elsevier don't want to support that.
Elsevier, the bane of my academic existence.

Also, vis-a-vis webseeds... what's stopping a Tor onion service from being the HTTP(S) endpoint? Those are pretty damn hard to bring down (from a legal standpoint). I'd assume the main limitation is that BitTorrent clients don't speak "onion service," but that's a fixable problem. Hell, what's stopping the trackers themselves from being onion services?

I sometimes only setup #tor #onionservice for services I run on a VPS because this is so awesome 🧅

Our onion url is finally live! Enjoy!

#privacy #misskey #tor #fediverse #onionservice -
#Tor is mainly known for the anonymity it provides, but the #onionservice is also awesome for easy networking and #encryption I just made my #yacy instance accessible via a .onion-addresse in about 10 Minutes.
@torproject is awesome! @orbiterlab

Traurige Nachrichten:
Die @nytimes hat deren #Tor Onion Service deaktiviert.

@kagihq launched the #privacy pass (kagi does not know who is searching what) and an #onionservice Awesome. The "clearnet" site can still not be accessed from all @torproject exitnodes, but this is an icredible step!

I really like to do #devlogs, so here is one:
I implemented a lot of things in my blog the last couple of days.
From generating an #rssfeed, listing my #github projects in a #serverside fetched view, to the Onion-Location header used by #brave to tell users that there's an #onionservice available. I've also #dockerized it. It looks like it's not gonna take too much time until i can finally publish it. -
I’m finally getting over Caddyserver’s betrayal and learning to love it again (as everyone else already has lol). Latest thing I did, hosting all my domains on #Tor without needing to configure each website independently: https://www.jonaharagon.com/notes/a-caddyfile-for-hosting-your-domain-and-all-subdomains-on-tor/ #Caddy #OnionService

Set up my website as an #OnionService to be accessible through the #Tor browser.

I think it's important to use Tor for things that don't necessarily have to be hidden as well, so using Tor doesn't just flag you as "someone who has something to hide".

So, ich hab mal wieder ne neue Idee... jetzt wird es spannend...
-
Using #http is not a good idea, over #Tor it a terrible idea.
That's why we are confused as to why #techrights dot org has allowed their #SSL certificate to expire (April 2019).
The expired certificate we get has a #SHA256 fingerprint ending in 6a8149a3a2f31fc2795a415ada421704
We say the #clearnet is in decay anyway. Does techrights dot org have an #onionService?
-
Alright! I'm working through the steps I need to get Synchronet configured and then I'm going to start experimenting with smtp, #gopher, and federation over Tor for my little #onionservice #bbs
