Walking through the woods, I'm reminded of the reasons why we work so hard restoring this crappy old Iowa woodlot. For years, pigs rooted through it for acorns. Now, we've completed five years of controlled burns and undergrowth removal. Intensive invasive weeding. Seed scattering and letting the remaining seed bank respond has begun to (re)create a beautiful place for a walk with the dogs.
