Oooh, and a couple of other noteworthy quotes from that fab article:
"Less has been said about the cognitive load of what other people’s AI use is doing to the rest of us, and the insidious nature of having to navigate an internet and a world where lazy AI has infiltrated everything"
"[…] what I have been noticing is a sameness, a homogenizing of large parts of the internet, including places I often felt were very human"

“It’s kind of looking grim for the future of the internet” 😢
"To browse the internet today, to consume any sort of content at all, is to be bombarded with AI of all sorts. People think things that are fake are real, things that are real are fake" 👉🏻 https://archive.is/rPLjp
And this is why I hang out in #Mastodon nowadays 😜👇🏻
"It’s that I have a finite time on this earth that I mostly want to spend interacting with other human beings"

Even if you believe that AI is great for productivity you can probably still see that human writing has intrinsic value that AI generated content does not have.
That's why we're building a way to ensure you are reading work by real humans.

I'm just reminded of how undermining people's trust in science and experts - as done by tobacco and fossil fuel advertising campaigns - is a strategy of propaganda and even psychological warfare.
They're still doing that. But now we even have the extra level of having to mistrust ART and HUMANITY and even CASUAL CHITCHAT because it could be LLM slop.
And it feels like an intentional attempt to break our trust, just as with "oh, what do doctors know about lung cancer, what do geoscientists know about the climate". Trying to exhaust us into believing we can't trust our discernment any more. Can't trust what we see, what we like, what makes us human. Can't trust ourselves... Do they think we'll be grateful for our slop overlords to save us? That won't happen.
Like all propaganda, it's dangerous, but it is not all-powerful. Being aware of propaganda techniques is the best defense against them. Actively seeking out trustworthy sources of information is the next step. But most of mastodon seem to be on that already.

Wow. Wix is absolutely atrocious. Without my asking it to, it built me a completely ludicrous Web page. Automatically launched some kind of AI without confirming that's what I wanted it to do. That made me feel awful. It feels gross.
It took 20 minutes. I would have taken screenshots, but I didn't want to run afoul of any terms of service, or spread AI slop. Complete waste of my time.
I got a free trial. Safe to say I've deleted the account.

I find it extremely annoying when you are trying to learn to #code and all the tools your course points you to are full of AI that want to do the coding for you. Like seriously, if I wanted an AI to code, I'd go ask Claude to write my code, not be paying for a course to learn to write #humancode
It is very irritating.
I want to learn to do something myself, not just cheat by using AI!!!
