The princess shrugged. “I suppose. I wish I could wade in it.”
The girl looked at the princess's lacy rose-pink dress. “Yeah, getting dirty would be bad.”
“And unladylike.”
Changing the subject, the princess asked, “Would you like some tea?” Then poured faintly scented rose tea.
“Wow, I’ve never had anything that tasted this good. — Can I have some cookies?”
“Of course, and you should say ‘please.’”
The girl grabbed a handful. “Please.”
“What did you want me for?” The girl asked through the cookie crumbs.
“To change places with me.”

Looking out over the monstrous growing thing called “The City,” I thought, “It is done.” I had evaded the eyes; Found all the firewalls, detectors, backups, and safeguards. I shuddered to think how many people “The City” had blamed and mistakenly executed for my work. “The City” was merciless. It only knew “justice.” It had even eliminated its masters for the crime of incompetence. They had programmed it to mine and accumulate bitcoins, and that is what it did. The ultimate “living” cancer.
But tonight it would die. If humans could no longer live, then neither would their creation “The City.”
