The HRRR is losing interest in the overnight storm threat. Still shows some showers and storms, but look how more isolated they are on the newer 18z guidance compared to the better-organized look on the 16z guidance from a couple of hours ago. The new 18z NAM hardly shows anything now, too. #njwx

A new forecast discussion from NWS Mount Holly/Philly kind of dismisses the severe threat the SPC seems to think exists. I agree with the forecast discussion's take that "severe weather is not expected" overnight. What's a good sign is that meteorologists I follow have barely mentioned today's SPC outlook aside from being skeptical of it.

The SPC now has all of New Jersey under MARGINAL (Level 1/5) risk for severe weather. And now things are looking a bit more interesting for NORTH Jersey. The latest HRRR runs show some storms moving through North Jersey/NYC metro around 8 p.m. EDT. At the same time, the HRRR & NAM show some decent CAPE (potential storm energy) in North/Central Jersey, so this has certainly piqued my interest a bit. #njwx

Well, these cells out in western PA are tracking east at about 25 mph, which means they are about 6-7 hours away from northern and central NJ. That is still early enough to feed on daytime instability — and there is a decent amount of that aloft as it is. We may have to buckle up for another round of severe weather around here. #njwx

Well, the HRRR may have been late to the party in seeing those storms around Harrisburg earlier, but it looks like it was correct in seeing that cluster collapse as it approaches New Jersey. It appears to be doing just that. Now we wait to see what the afternoon/evening brings. #njwx
