I don't have the energy to replicate the thread here right now, but for anyone curious, I recorded my first encounter with jj-vcs, a "better git" that I've heard a lot of positive noises about over in a bsky thread:

A pattern I've seen pop up repeatedly during my long career in #tech is how new-shiny-thing is going to solve every problem, followed by large-scale investment in new-shiny-thing, ultimately leading to a realization that new-shiny-thing did NOT solve every problem, then a migration to the next new-shiny-thing.
I remember seeing it with CORBA, SOAP, XML, UML, J2EE, CIM, Blockchain, etc., and now I believe we are seeing it again with generative "AI". I may be wrong, but I predict that in a year or two, people will come to realize that it did not solve every problem, and we'll be on to the next new-shiny-thing.

I have to say, having spent a little time there, I simply do not get the excitement about BlueSky. Folks are raving about how wonderful and nice and like Twitter used it be it is... but it's (as of yesterday, I believe) 50,000 users, acquired mostly by users-inviting-their-friends.
The web interface is extremely bare bones (making me constantly miss features in Mastodon!)
We'll see what happens, but thus far my feed here remains far more enjoyable and active.
