Musical Interlude: Johan Svendsen doesn't get enough love. (Well, his marriage was a disaster, but that's beside the point.) He composed some perfectly lovely stuff, and while he's not on the level of Tchaikovsky or Debussy, he's better than some stuff I've heard in the standard modern repertoire. A Norwegian who lived and worked in Copenhagen, he had success in Scandinavia but was ignored elsewhere. It's time to change that.
"Romeo and Juliet Fantasie," composed by Johan Svendsen, performed by the South Bay Philharmonic, conducted by George Yefchak.
