Art In Bloom Festival 𧡠Continued
Inspiration: Leo
Primary floral materials: pussy willow, roses, sunflowers, calla lilies, amaranthus, ranunculus, chrysanthemumsπ§βπ¨ From the Designers: Leo blazes, fire born, sun ruled, radiating warmth, passion, loyalty, and royalty. Pussy Willow, crowned with fur-soft catkins, embodies resilience and enduring strength; bold; devoted sunflowers turn their golden faces to follow the sun.
π My take: This was the first installation/sculpture connected with the secondary 'Zodiac' theme, and was spectacular, taller than the viewers. I had to take a pic of the booty because, if you look closely, there are lettered strands woven in, with words like "energetic" and "confident".

Inspiration: Woman Seated on a Bench, Greek, Attic or Boeotian
Primary floral materials: roses, carnations, grasses, eryngium, scabiosa pods, hanging amaranthus
Context: Tanagra figurines were cherished cast clay possessions that must have hinted at their owner's inevitable death, often accompanying them into the grave. Mutely, they show us a bit about how they lived 2400 years ago.
You have to appreciate the difficulty in interpreting in flowers, a figurine that stood no taller than 6in/15cm. Look closely to see interesting details.

Art Piece Inspiration: 'The Peruzzi Altarpiece' (Christ blessing with Saint John the Evangelist, the Virgin Mary, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Francis Giotto de Bondone
Primary floral materials: lilies, delphiniums, poppies, dahlias, scabiosa pods, hydrangeas
From the design team: "The thorns echoed Jesus's sacrifice. Flowers symbolize royalty (purple closed parentheses, Jesus says blood (crimsons), and divine purity (white)."
I like how the designers figured out a way to represent the panels.
Zoom in on flower art to see detail. In most pieces there are small, hidden embellishments.

Starting a new series 𧡠from the 2026 Art In Bloom event at the NC Museum of Art.
Every year, floral artists are challenged to create arrangements that represent art pieces in the museum. There is also a second annual theme where artists participate. This year the theme was the Zodiac.
As you enter the building, there is a welcome installation, "The Celestial Spectrum".
From the design team: "The celestial spectrum is an interpretive garden merging the spirit of the Zodiac with southern cottage whimsy, where color, folklore, and movement invite visitors to discover their flower and weave their own stories of wonder and belonging."
