Thanks #NASATOPS for sending me a certificate from the #OpenScience 101 curriculum (and nice swag)! It nicely complements my digital badge.
I can really recommend enrolling and studying the 101 curriculum. I took it (self-taught) over 2-3 weeks earlier in the year.

@pdebuyl @ChelleGentemann @crawfordsm
Thanks for sharing your experience with taking the #NASATOPS Open Science 101 curriculum. I took it as well and fully share your recommendation that many scientists should take it.
I learned most about licensing, preprints, and about the usefulness of the Open Science and Data Management Plan. And yes, I am a little proud of my course certificate 😉.

I like this unwinding of a research data lifecycle to focus on scientific workflow stages and corresponding digital objects as shareable outputs.

Status update, #NASATOPS #OpenScience 101:
✅ The ethos of Open Science
✅ Open Tools & Resources
✅ Open Data
✅ Open Code
✅ Open ResultsThis 5th module was about Open Results, including peer-reviewed publications, but also blog posts, notebooks, abstracts, posters, ... The list of what you can (and should!) share goes on and on and on.
Again, the OSDMP (Open Science and Data Management Plan) will help share early.
The lesson made me reflect about contributors vs authors, not easy...

✅ The ethos of Open Science
✅ Open Tools & Resources
✅ Open Data
✅ Open Code
🔲 Open ResultsThis 4th module was about Open Code.
Again, the importance of a Software Management Plan (SMP) for larger projects (like #CIMRL2PAD is).
And (software) licenses, licenses, licenses!
Can I safely use an LGPL library in my "permissive" software? I need to find out.
Ha! And the module made me discover @pyOpenSci, so that's something!

✅ The ethos of Open Science
✅ Open Tools & Resources
✅ Open Data
🔲 Open Code
🔲 Open ResultsSomething I learned in this 3rd module: always assign a license to your data!
Lesson 3 reads: "If you don't license your work, others can’t/shouldn’t re-use it - even if you want them to. [...] A dataset without a license does not mean that the data is open; using a licenseless dataset is not ethical."
Common data licenses are CC-BY and CC0

And the importance of #FAIR data, obviously, but I was convinced from before.

Very exciting to see that the #NASA #NASATOPS open science curriculum recommends CITATION.cff files in the #CitationFileFormat to provide and find the correct citation metadata for open research outputs 🚀!
The course materials themselves have their own CITATION.cff file 😎.

Thanks to @fperez, I might have gotten very distracted during the #NASATOPS panel looking at all the updates in Myst.
Looking at how they've added citations to markdown, which has long been on my wish list for using markdown for scientific writing:
