@aggualaqisaaq Ya, sure. They also promised they would only retain power for 1 year after the initial coup and would have elections then, but that never happened either. The only way they will ever relinquish power is by force. Luckily, the various rebel groups seem to be doing just that.

Three years ago, young placard-waving Myanmar democracy protesters were hounded from the streets of Mandalay by soldiers in the wake of the military's latest coup. Last month some of those same protesters faced off against the military again -- but this time they were operating a mortar in northern Shan state, firing rounds at a junta position with swift, practised movements.
