  1. Start Where You Are; Your Music Journey Begins Now

Have you ever felt a deep passion for music but never quite knew how or where to start? Or you have started but not clear about bringing your musical ideas into a reality.

Many people love music but get stuck waiting for the perfect time. Maybe you’ve quit before, or feel like you’ve missed your chance.

There’s really no perfect moment — only the one you have now. Every great musician began uncertain, just like you.

    Just Start

Start small. Start with what you already have. Sing, practice, or write one line today. Use all the available resources.

    Be Consistent
Stay consistent. Make a rehearsal or learning plan. Paste it on the board. View it everyday. A 10 minutes daily practice beats 2 hours once a month.

    Be Patient
Perfection is attainable but the focus should be a consistent progress so you don’t get weary. Forget perfection at the start. Just ensure that you make progress daily no matter how little. Progress is what matters. A continuous progress will eventually lead to a perfection.

    Connect
Connect with others. Stay around people who encourages you. Find a community that can help you thrive. Growth happens in community. Sign up for Music lessons. Get a coach or personal trainer.

    Music Isn’t Just Art

The world still needs your sound. Music isn’t just art — it’s your voice, your sound, your story, your message.

It’s never too late to get it done.

  3. Reading some great doctoral candidate work on expression and imagery in piano performance by Jinjing Liu. It isn’t my role to share the tentative findings but I’m hopeful this’ll lead to a publication beyond the thesis (assuming as I am a positive examination outcome). She’s my supervisee, so bias in my evaluations is always an issue… one way or the other. I hope the examiners will like it as much as I do when it’s all been put together.

  5. Unlike the performance marathon that was June, July is more about composing projects -- I have just one show to play and it should be special!

Join us July 20 at 8pm at Barbès with the wonderful accordionist/pianist/composer Simone Baron.
