🇨🇳 🧱 Wielki Mur Chiński trzyma się dzięki lepkiemu ryżowi. Tajemnicą trwałości muru z czasów dynastii Ming jest zaprawa, do której dodano wywar z kleistego ryżu. Składnik ten (amylopektyna) sprawił, że zaprawa stała się niezwykle twarda i odporna na wodę, a przy tym elastyczna. Jest ona tak mocna, że w wielu miejscach muru wciąż nie wyrastają chwasty, ponieważ ich korzenie nie potrafią przebić się przez ryżową spoinę.
Technika ta nie ograniczała się do samego Wielkiego Muru, tego samego kompozytu używano również przy budowie pagód, grobowców i murów miejskich, a podobna technologia była stosowana w Chinach od ponad 1500 lat, choć to właśnie w okresie Ming stała się standardem na dużą skalę.
Zaprawa ryżowa jest dziś wykorzystywana w konserwacji zabytków, np. przy renowacji liczącego 800 lat mostu Shouchang we wschodnich Chinach.
Jeden z grobowców z okresu Ming zbudowany z tą zaprawą podobno oparł się próbie zburzenia buldożerem.
