#OTD John #Champneys, American #Botanist, #Horticulturist, & #Gardener, is born.He crossed a Chinese Rosa chinensis and an #English #Rosa #moschata to create the first #Hybrid rose - a hardy rose that #Blooms almost year-round - the Champney's #Pink Cluster Rose.
The gardener Philippe #Noisette took credit when he sent clippings to his brother in #France & called it the Rosa Noisettiana. Modern historians are setting the record straight.
