As much as it’s not even been a month since we said goodbye to the last of our two dogs. I really do miss having a dog as much as I miss the two of them. 😔 From 2022.
My waistline misses the walks too. I’ve been trying to keep up with the same level of walking but still falling short. Dogs are such no brainer exercise. Just a daily routine that made me walk up to 4Km a day without thinking about it. -

Apart from the weekend when Millie was at the vet, only about two holidays, and the 6 months between our last cat Mario being euthanised and our adopting the two dogs, we have had one or two cats and dogs around the house since 1999! So it is very weird now to be just as two at home and very quiet.

Absolutely got my subconscious here doing the cheese tax payment still, those wee extra bits I immediately think for a millisecond, or a Millie second, to save for the absent furry pal who’d have scoffed them up happily. 😔

They leave a metaphorical space in your heart but physical ones become voids too, where they used to lie, or have their beds 😢💔
Last time, with Ethel, there was still Millie but now no dog to greet you in the morning or returning to the house, or to feed and walk, it will be tough until circumstance, grief and time permits having another.

RIP Millie moo, 2011-2026. She was playing on the grass with her squeaky ball right up to her last hour or so of this life, but her time had come after a decline the last 2 days sadly.
You could be a challenging dog Millie, but you were a loving one who was loved too, and always will be. Miss you ma darlin’.

Walking a dog in her last weeks is a constant tension between thinking: this takes so long now & how many walks are left? 😢 Every day for 9 years I’ve walked 2 - 4x daily & will miss that as well as her. 30-45 min walk takes an hour now but not because of physical limitation, more that she wants to sniff every inch, maybe because her eyesight is so bad now.
I’m glad she made it to the sunny days as she likes nothng more than rolling around on the grass in the sun.
