Mike Monteiro on designers having AI shoved down their throats.
Tell ’em.
(P.S. If you don’t know Mike, he’s a super-smart dude. And he’s cussy like me. And we’ve shared a stage twice. So I like him.)

“Right now there is someone firing up ChatGPT because it’s cheap. Right now there is someone writing a prompt in Claude because it brings him closer to his co-workers. Right now there is someone walking a co-worker through his agentic workflow, in the same way we attempted to impress one another by blowing smoke rings. Right now there is someone parking a Cybertruck on your street, believing that leaving his divorce where everyone can see it is somehow impressive. We have always been good at ignoring the warnings that came with the pack.”

Great advice here for creatives and freelancers from Mike Monteiro. There's very little to protect small creatives from bad clients in the absence of a solid contract.

"Fuck You, Pay Me" is still as valid today as it was in 2011 when #MikeMonteiro first asserted it; #artists and designers of every stripe deal with this dryshite, and if you are a potential client thinking of stiffing a creative professional, there are some of us happy to make that attempt as painful and subsequently as 'scorched earth' to your reputation as a client, as possible. SaaS = Spite as a Service.

@theprivacyfoundation Thanks for posting this! We need to keep in mind why we decided to become creators of all kinds in the first place and focus on TEACHING this to everyone. Mike was one of the first and most impactful people who taught me that you DO have a choice and you CAN make a difference. #mikemonteiro #ethicaldesign #ruinedbydesign #privilege
