#meansTesting is literal fucking murder
Instead of making life hard for a hungry person, you could, you know, be kind, or constructive

CW: more bad look mamdani cringe
This deserves another toot because it was lost in the middle of one of my long rambles
There are police officers watching the subway turnstiles
STILL
Really fucking bad look
100 million and more was spent last year to stop 100,000 worth of 'fraud.'
And really horrible chilling fraud where poor people hitch a ride on a system that is going there anyway so that they can be more mobile
Pernicious!
And why do they have people hiding they are literally hiding in the spot where you don't see them until you have jumped the turnstile
Shame #mamdani
Beyond it being a form of #meansTesting* that is so crass as to actually please #capitalist wage slave fappers, It would be a way of paying for all sorts of other beneficial programs, but like most names of political parties they tend to mean the exact opposite
Democrat**... socialist alliance so if you want to get with exploiting capitalist piggies, come and pretend your socialist with us
He has such a megaphone and could make so much change
So for all he's done is child care which is nice... And clever... But tactical and photogenic
*Means testing is murder
**Democrats as in Jeffersonian wrote the declaration of Independence and the Constitution 3/5 of a man "Democrats"

Why don't we means test health care for public officials? It seems strange that we all pay through the nose for our health care or go without, while people like Trump and their families get the best health care in the world for free for the rest of their lives at our expense!

CW: NZPol Parental means testing
"As students well knew in the 1990s, the parental income test simply does not work. It cannot be assumed that parents will support students up to the age of 25. Under the means testing introduced for student allowances, a student could be estranged from a parent, yet the income of that parent could still count."

i love seeing these bot posts about legislation introduced to US congress.
are millionaires really qualifying for unemployment benefits? for the purposes of this bill, what’s a millionaire… is the measure based on assets, or on after tax income?
how much cheaper than #MeansTesting and policing unemployment payments would it be to just give everyone some form of #UBI?is this the most pressing matter to put before congress, or is the tabling of this bill some quid pro quo? is it think-tank generated legislation, or some sort of personal initiative?
just talking drivel out loud (see, i did not say i was <thinking>out loud)

"Labour rules out universal childcare for young children in fiscal credibility drive"
Call me a cynic, but I wouldn't be surprised if means-tested childcare costs more than a universal system. Old-school Labour managerialism should have been buried along with Gordon Brown.

There are people who won't use services if there's a chance it'll increase their taxes. Only if the means test starts at something like $150k AGI would it make sense.
Recent aid in California was explicitly labeled as, if you got this card, it's yours and won't increase taxes, etc. To help address this problem.

CW: Long thread/27
> ...and also because it is most helpful in reducing strategic default, rather than payment-distress-induced default,
This is just #MeansTesting by another name, a fetish for separating the "deserving poor" from "moochers" (AKA "strategic defaulters"). The PMC *loves* means-testing, but only for poor people. As Moran points out, rich people like Trump use strategic defaults all the time:

#MeansTesting for social benefits is wrong, always.
The purpose of means testing is to create conflict between people based on an arbitrary wage, thus reducing support for the program and allowing it to be underfunded which in turn ensures those dependent upon it are forced to suffer without.
Social benefits should have 100% universal access.

If a #bureaucracy tells a person that it may take up to #49Days to get back to them, what they are actually saying is, "die".
