Last @mcrscifi book club, we discussed Day of the Triffids, a book from 1954. I liked it considerably more than others did - mainly due to them feeling it hadn't stood the test of time and, especially sexism. I'm more on the "it was probably better than it's times". The women weren't all damsels in distress and, while the proportion of the human race was seen as a necessity I don't think it was as bad as it could have been >>>

Should I give M R Carey's Infinity Gate another go? First four chapters were awful and seemed designed to antagonise me as the reader. Really not a fan. But I should for #mcrsf ...

Or I could return to Assassin's Quest...

I've just finished "The Ministry of Time" for Tuesday evening's book club. The last chapters have some plot twists I'd love to have explained to me (even after a re-read) but that would involve spoilers for folks so _please_ finish it !

Well, I found out where my Gideon book is (the Ninth, not the Bible) and, yeah, I need to go pick up a new one to re-read for #mcrsf

Just finished the latest Wheel of Time episode and discovered that the book series Humble Bundle is not available in the UK (not sure when I'd get round to reading to be honest)

Looking forward to #Gladiators and #DoctorWho tonight

Oh, and I'll need to (re-)read Gideon the Ninth for #mcrsf... was not a fan on my first read... can I find it?

Hugo finalists are announced and my record is... Not great

* One novella (Brides of High Hill, Nghi Vo - so very very good)
* Most of (but not the recent release) the Southern Reach series
* One book of inCryptid series (which I enjoyed)
* 4 long form drama (Wild Robot or TV Glow for the win please)
* The 2 Doctor Whos in Best Short Form

One Novel is on the #mcrsf list for later in the year (Ministry of Time)

My copy of Gideon the Ninth is not in the "one day I'll get round to donating these" bags in my hallway... That means one of two things:
* For some, unknown reason I decided to keep it
* I've given it to a friend

Now, which is easier... Asking friends if I gave it to them, they still have it and can I borrow it back OR looking through books behind books on shelves and piles OR just buying a new one?

How I did not get on with lesbian space necromancers when I first read it is a mystery

We've had to swap some books around for #mcrsf meaning I've now got to reread Gideon the Ninth for next month... Which means in have to find it and it isn't in my "disliked it enough - but not evil enough to not want to let it into the wild - to stack in my hallway for donating" stacks...

Hoping I'm more receptive to it this time round - more receptive than "lesbian space necromancers? Hell yeah - inject that right into my veins" might be tricky though...

Loved Chapter 1 though...

Righteo, last volume of #Frankenstein for #mcrsf... Only about 50 pages or so, but quite dense... Actually, let me get my other text to make a couple of comparisons...

So, I am about to start the re-read for #mcrsf on Tuesday. I'm back on the 1818 text this time (but shall miss the pretty of the Folio edition)

As predicted, I finished my book for #mcrsf which leaves me with the, still unanswered, question of what to #read next...

I'm going to stick another episode of Time Team on and ponder and invite suggestions...

I should get up so I can get some breakfast going,...

I'm likely to finish my #mcrsf (book club) read (Swastika Night) soon (it's short) leaving me pondering: what next? Dune etc.? Chuck Tingle? Other standalone things? Terra Ignota? Realm of the Elderlings? Something else?

Finished my #HalloweenReads read of #DorianGray. I've mentioned earlier, this is the manuscript version which was edited for Lippincott's before the later novel version. This means more homosexual undercurrents than even the original publication, but a shorter narrative (including no James Vane).

And annotations.

Now I have to have a short interlude for #mcrsf reading of Winter keep by Kristin Cashore

Meant to be moderating book for #MCRSF tonight (don't worry, I will be) but I read it back in March - that's 24 and a third books ago - and this unhealthy obsession with capitalism (and my perfectly reasonable obsession with shiny new books) means I haven't re-read it so *shrug*

I have a stack of things to watch and I am just sat here in front of my computer wondering what I should do about dinner before #mcrsf book club tonight...
