Finally got the single-sided #Sanyo MBC-555 to boot MSDOS v2.11, which normally needs a two-sided floppy drive. Next step is to get Kermit on this machine so I can test the serial card I just made for it!

I spent a lot of time crimping IDC cables today to finish building my boards. One adapter for the PC-8001 to use floppy drives, and another for the Sanyo MBC-555 to speak RS-232.
Both these boards are going to be open source: let me know if you have either of these machines and I'll send you a spare board if these end up working out when I test them.

We're getting just that little bit closer to a working open-source RS-232 card for the Sanyo MBC-555. Parts right now are all salvaged from a battery-doomed Hitachi PC, so a small salve on that wound as well.
Just need to build a ribbon cable, and then I can start testing. Uh, that is, if I find some software that uses a serial port for this computer.
