    The prompt is #giggle

Luka Bloom, “I Need Love” from The Acoustic Motorbike (1992)

I think it’s safe to say that when LL Cool J released “I Need Love” in 1987, it was the first track that could be considered a #rap ballad, and it changed things. On the heels of #RunDMC's and #Aerosmith's breakthrough to rock audiences by with their reworking of the latter’s “Walk This Way," “I Need Love” further demonstrated the versatility of the form.

But when #LukaBloom decided to cover it, now THAT was something. Before such genre hopping became commonplace, before Everlast picked up an acoustic guitar and softly intoned his rhymes, (and, full disclosure, possibly recorded around the same time as LL’s own groundbreaking appearance on #MTVUnplugged) this skinny white Irish folkster delivering LL Cool J’s words implored with that Irish lilt?? Madness, I tell you! When my Irish friend first played it for me, I literally almost fell out of my chair giggling, while falling in love with it.

So, yeah, about about that "giggle" business - I’m taking a slight liberty featuring Luka’s version here because as many artists do when covering someone else’s song, he slightly altered the lyrics in his delivery, and one such tweak changes LL Cool J’s original

“There I was giggling about the games
That I had played with many hearts, and I'm not saying no names”

    to the de-giggled:

“There I was joking at my games
So many hearts and I’m saying no names”

…but I wanted to go beyond simply offering up #LLCoolJ’s version.
