  1. Hey #archivists: #LostCanadians have made you all heroes in #Canada. I have seen at least 5 articles recently with various keepers of history.

It is really life-changing (and sometimes life-saving) work for us right now. Thank you from the bottom of our maple-flavored hearts. 🍁❤️‍🩹

  6. RE: flipboard.com/@associatedpress

Another story on the #LostCanadians citizenship process.

I have seen #trans families succeed at this already. There is an urgent route for some applications and it can be done in weeks.

  8. CW: uspol, canada, citizenship, descent

so apparently they're getting people whose ancestors were last in canada in the mid-18th century? my ancestors left Nova Scotia in the mid-19th, is there a reason I shouldn't try to get CA citizenship???

  9. This is the first article I've seen on the #LostCanadians that gets it right. A lot of people in New England are eligible for Canadian citizenship now.

Just this morning a #trans family got their approval and are very happy about that.

I understand this isn't for everyone, but if you need this--might consider it.

  15. Canada’s *Lost Canadians* amendments to its Citizenship Act came into force on Monday, December 15, 2025.

What this means is that if you have at least one Canadian ancestor — born in Canada or by naturalization — you probably are now a Canadian citizen.

This includes ancestors who were were British subjects domiciled in Canada for periods prior to 1947.

This recent podcast has the two Canadian citizenship expert lawyers who literally wrote the book on citizenship by descent, one of who provided expert testimony at the Senate hearings on the legislative amendments in C-3 and contributing the briefs from the Canadian Bar Association.

They note that their research shows that many Americans, especially in the North East, likely qualify. While it’s necessary to establish the line of descent to obtain a certificate of citizenship, it’s also necessary to renounce formally citizenship *to Canadian authorities* to avoid it.

New Canadian citizens as a result of these amendments include numerous well known Americans, including Hilary Clinton and Tucker Carlson.

It’s noted that Carlson vehemently opposes dual citizenship.
