  1. Did you know? 'Futoshiki' is Japanese for 'not equal' — the < and > signs between cells are the whole puzzle. It's a Latin square where the inequalities, not given digits, do the heavy lifting.

  2. Of all number puzzle types — Sudoku, Kakuro, Killer Sudoku, Calcudoku, Skyscraper — which one do you find genuinely hardest? Not 'haven't tried it' hard, but 'I've tried and it still hurts' hard.

  3. The GridJoy puzzle books are live. Large-print Killer Sudoku, Kakuro, Sudoku, Calcudoku and a mixed Number Puzzles book — 100 hand-checked puzzles each, every one with a single guaranteed solution, printed big and clear. Same calm, wordless style as the app, made by the same generators. No screen required — just a pencil and a quiet afternoon.

  4. Did you know? In Starlink (Hidato), consecutive numbers just need to share a corner — diagonals count as adjacent. That gives every interior cell up to 8 neighbours, making the number path surprisingly flexible even when the grid looks tight.

  5. Hitori: shade cells until no number repeats in a row or column, shaded cells never touch, and all unshaded cells connect. The visual guide shows the chain logic that fills the grid fast.

  6. Did you know? A 4×4 Skyscraper has 16 border clues — one per side of every row and column. More clues than cells. Most boards still feel hard until you spot the clue of 1 (tallest building at the edge) and cascade from there.

  7. Back to my logic puzzle game recommendations. This time something a bit different, not exactly a logic game, but I think it fits.

16 Tones is a game where you have to reorder music tiles based on their tones. From high-pitched to low. Relaxing and just fun to play.

  11. Years ago I loved the game Trainyard -- it was a mobile game and was a lovely masterpiece geometric logic puzzle.

    trainyard.ca/

(It's so good, folks went and proved theorems about it: google.com/search?q=https://do. And of course the connection between train tracks, switching, and logic gates is pretty obvious.)

    I finished every puzzle!

Sadly, the game has never been updated and is now old enough so that it doesn't even work on mobile devices.

Fortunately someone is keeping the game alive! Play in your browser:

    github.com/micoloth/OpenTrainy

Hooray! Maybe someone is making new levels...!

  18. I have another free logic puzzle from Dell Penny Press for you in a PDF. I printed it and solved it with a pencil; it's nice to get away from the screens for a while.

I'd categorize this one as harder than it looks at first, but not as impossible as it seems at second. 😉

  20. #Introduction
@BruceWoodrow and I are back in #Toronto after time in rural & suburban #Ontario.
#CorktownCommon across the street, #Nature on our doorstep.

    Passions: #LogicPuzzles, #Grids, #Tapestry, #HomegrownDatabase, #Coding, #LifeLongLearning.

Projects: converting #Needlework designs from #GraphPaper to #PixelArt, animating some of them with #processing. Still a beginner.

    Opinions: #AgingWithTech, #CityLife

  25. @cordeliane This is a really good question. A hashtag is in order. Not having my coffee yet, I will grouse that even the name #numberpuzzles isn’t all that great because there are some great puzzles in the genre (language independent logic puzzles) that don’t make use of numbers. I would prefer to call them #logicpuzzles, but there is already a custom of using that name to refer to the verbal kind of logic puzzle. So #numberpuzzles is probably the way to go!

  26. Shifting to wandering.shop, so it's time for a re-re- #introduction. I'm Tablesaw (sometimes SawOfTheTable) & I've been on Mastodon for a while.

    I do #python and #react #programming for work.

I'm a #film buff who's as much at home on Criterion as on Shudder. I especially enjoy the #horror community & I'm hoping to keep doing live #HorrorFam #MutantFam events here,

    I do #puzzles, #crosswords, #LogicPuzzles & #PuzzleHunt (especially #MysteryHunt).

    I occasionally play #videogames and #ttrpg.
