@jw You can just #LockAndLeave it sitting with zero followers. All requests to follow will just be ignored. But no mater how you do it it’s very smart not to just deactivate, since in 30 days your account could be spoofed & all old @ replies will direct to the fake. 👍

@JessicaGimeno The only reason I keep going back is to drag people here 😜👍 Dont delete your account though and if you did re activate it and read the replies at #LockAndLeave for why & how. I wouldn’t trust Elmo as far as I can throw him.

@JaneGray @adman Make sure you don’t just deactivate. In 30 days your account can be spoofed. All @ replies ever directed at you would then direct to the fake you even if though your tweets would be gone. #LockAndLeave There is more info in that thread from people that responded. Tips for leaving no usable trace but still leaving your name untouchable. 😊

I reactivated my twitter account so I could delete the tweets, likes and DMs, which I have done. I've run fedifinder (which found a whole lot more people than last time - which was 0!) and imported the found fediverse addresses of my twitter contacts. I left a message on my profile with my mastodon address saying, "Can no longer be on this site. Human rights & democracy are precious. Do not stay here and support antisemitism and hatred." Locked my account and signed out. #LockAndLeave

@vaweisman You might want to go read the posts at #LockAndLeave If you just deactivate, in 30 days your account can be reactivated by anyone, your follows,followers & tweets will be gone but every @reply that ever went to you will now go to the fake you. It only takes a few minutes to reactivate securely lock the account and log out. If you have deactivated go back. Reactivate leave one last message with your new #Mastodon account info & secure so no new follows can occur & then just park it. It doesn’t help #Elmo if you do it this way. #Twitter

Please remind people to not just deactivate. They need to secure their accounts & #LockAndLeave otherwise in 30 days their name can be spoofed. While most of their info is gone, every @ reply ever directed at them will direct to the fake.

@donmelton Exactly this! But you can’t just deactivate & leave. You have to secure your account and #LockAndLeave it active. If you’ve already deactivated just reactivate then lock and leave. Otherwise in 30 days your account can be spoofed. Your information will be gone but your #twitter handle can be acquired by bad actors or bots and every @ reply ever directed to you will now redirect to them. #twittermigration
