Many of you have probably heard of Magnus Hirschfield, the pioneer of gay and transgender rights and science in the 1920s and 1930s from Berlin, but have you heard about his Chinese boyfriend Li Shiu Tong who was also a sex researcher? Thanks to racism and being overshadowed by his more famous lover, Li has been largely forgotten, but his work, had it survived, would have shown a much higher prevalence of queerness than even modern studies show.
