I love #Thunderbird very much, but I am surprisesly satisfied with #ClawsEmail.
In combination with the new nVME drive is handling, on my low-end #crapbook, my two biggeer mailboxes very well. It is snappy, plain-text by default, and intuitive to use.

There are a plethora of newer DE, windows manager, Wayland etc...
But nothing compare with #Gnome2 + #Compiz, for this reason I use #Xfce and #WindowMaker; all the rest is boring...
