  1. I published a new post, this time trying to make the most of the little RAM I had to create a #TileDB #soma - a #singlecell format and database - but for the complete #LINCS 2020 dataset. A measly 140GB+ of data.

I didn't want to re-invent the wheel, so ended converting between multiple file formats to avoid as many in-memory operations as possible.

There are probably less evolved ways of doing this, but this is the one my technical skills allowed:)

  2. Historically, Lincolnshire, like Gaul, “est omnis divisa in partes tres”. In terms of local government reorganisation in England, this should obviously be the model for unitarisation in the county* - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parts_

    * given the distribution of modern population and infrastructure, this is probably untrue/a bad idea, but I’m unsure if there is a “good” way to do it. However it is probably the one that could best be pitched to the very conservative/Conservative locals.

  11. Had a super relaxing weekend in a glamping pod in the woods near Newark over the bank holiday. Surrounded by lots of pheasants, geese and other creatures! Local pub grub was amazing too

  12. @timwilson I haven’t been since the 1960s. One of those places I prefer to cherish as a memory. I grew up in #lincs and lived in London for 30 years. Have lived in #Switzerland and #France for the last couple of decades. I hear NE England is culturally buzzing these days. That’s good. Cheers.

  13. @JevonCarey I was born and grew up in Sutton Bridge #lincs. My father was a smallholder who leased 10 acres. We grew flowers. So I loved reading your blog and encourage you to do more. Love both your evocative #photography and your writing. Thanks. Greetings from Switzerland where I now live and #dream of the #fens #fenland
