I will not submit to the #techpocalypse!

I had been wanting a Blu-ray burner for a while but they frequently go out of stock as well as the price increasing.

When I saw this Asus model (BW-16D1X-U) was in stock, I jumped on it. It also supports the #LibreDrive and #OmniDrive firmware for 4K movie and video game ripping.

Seeing as how I won't be buying additional hard drives anytime soon it will be nice to be able to make hard backups of files.

The last time I burned a bunch of backups was probably the mid-2000s. I have traveled back in time. 😎

Pro LibreDrive Blu-ray flashing tip:

If you have a Buffalo BRXL-16U3 and it uses an LG BH16NS58 with drive platform MT1959, you can flash "WH16NS60 1.02-MK" as mentioned in this post with encryption and makemkvcon from MakeMKV 1.17.7 for Linux (in the binary tar gz, works on Arch right now but haven't updated within a few days) and it'll enable LibreDrive:

Cool, cool. the #UHD capable Bluray drive I just bought (Pioneer BDR-XD08U) is not compatible with #MakeMKV and #LibreDrive . Damn. I sent in a copy of the firmware dump as instructed, so, eh, we'll see what shakes out.

Trying a bluray not next. Using an LG BP50NB40 if anyone is curious. Have not flashed #libredrive yet but I don't have many #UHDdiscs.
