UX Bootcamps won’t get you immediate success during job search. But the help you to expand your knowledge and give you the tools to get started, make your own experiences and grow as a designer.

💡 Don’t be shy, get started.
💡 If you wait, you will never feel confident enough.

Many UX bootcamps last 3 months. This doesn’t mean that you are the perfect designer afterwards. It’ll give you the basics you can grow your knowledge on.
Practice, get involved in projects, help a friend to improve their website. Get experience and you will get more confident.

Map out the customer journey to
- the different phases the users go through
- empathize with users
- understand the core problems they experienced
- get a comprehensive overview of motivation, thoughts and feelings users have

If you want to make a career change into UX Design, use your previous work experience.
You are not starting from scratch. Every phase of your career has made you who you are today. Use that and write your unique story based on it.

Things to work on as junior UX designer:
‣ Get hands-on experience with ideation methods
‣ Ask the right questions in user interviews
‣ Speak the same language as the dev team
‣ Learn what to deliver when in the processYou’re not alone, ask other for help & feedback.

How you make progress when learning UX:
➢ Learn the basics of UX and UI
➢ Find a project, e.g. an app you want to develop (or improve)
➢ Learn about different concepts, processes, patterns, and methodologies as you gain your own experience and actively apply your knowledge
➢ Exchange with other designers, ask how they do their work, solve problems and get stuff done -
When I started using #Figma in 2021 I decided to design lots of landing pages for various topics.
I reached my goal to do creative work, being able to design fast and getting used to most important Figma commands just within a month.

Communication is key for you as a product designer to
‣ make decisions
‣ solve problems
‣ understand users
‣ show your work -
Take your answers from a survey, put them into Figjam and start aggregating them.
That’s called affinity mapping. You group together similar or related answers from your survey and find out what bothers your users most.

When you put a profile section on your resume
⛔️ avoid generic sentences like “I am a creative designer”
✅ tell your story and how you gained your skills “working as a XXX I was able to grow my YYY skills”

Showcasing your design work does not mean you have to pick up new ideas and features all the time.
Communicate to your team what’s the goal of showing your design, e. g.
- keep everyone up to date
- get feedback on specific parts
- give possibility to ask questions -

If you are an internal product designer don’t forget to advocate UX design in your team and company. Many non-designers are not aware of the value UX can bring to users.

You’re design work will never be perfect. Because you cannot define “perfect” in design.
There are hundreds and thousand unique ways how you can solve a problem. Just start, iterate and get better.

I started my journey as a designer more than 10 years back - I just didn't know it back then.
