2025年8月底，印尼爆發近年來規模最大的全國性示威行動，主因包括國會議員上調房屋津貼、警察暴力執法及經濟困境。公民抗爭從8月25日啟動後，當局的鎮壓導致至少10人死亡。律師Amira指出，在2025年印尼大規模抗爭中「短期強迫失蹤」的現象明顯增加，只能透過地毯式搜索各處警局詢問失蹤人員的下落。而在尋人過程，他們不斷遭遇警方刻意誤導，及否認受害者遭到拘留等阻撓。經反覆查證後，才發現許多人早已被登錄在案，實際上正處於秘密監控與拘禁之中。
