The best part of my work day so far (WFH alone today) has been going out to feed their #Chookesties and see that our Baby (mini wyandotte) has laid an egg after months of being on strike.

And also enjoying all the bulbs peeking out and so many crocuses filling the garden with color.

Baby was released from #BroodyJail yesterday and seems to be back to normal.

It's been a while since these gals featured here.

They're not really amused by the weather. They only came out of their covered run after they saw me (which means they get some scratch feed and bugs).

Happy to report that miss broody Baby is no longer broody, so we could let her back into the flock.

Which also means Betty and Bonnie are making it into the coop on time before the door auto closes. Since Baby is the night time alarm clock of the family.

A pigeon landed inside #Chookingham open run, their #Chookesties quickly reacted to get the intruder out of their turf.

That was a funny sight of our little Baby (no longer broody, the three days in broody jail worked), Betty & Bonnie, speed up and puff up to get that ugly flying thing off their home.

Tentatively positive that Baby is no longer broody.

She got out (escaped) broody jail yesterday while I was cleaning the run & coop, and behaved normally.

This morning she's out and about doing what chickens do.

Our little Baby has finally laid an egg! This mini wyandotte took 3 months and a week after arriving home to mature and start laying.

If you offer the hens weeds or greens from your hand, the ladies think they're the best. Drop them to the ground, and they'll ignore them tho.

They also love mock strawberries https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentilla_indica and go nuts when we offer some. So we exercise them by throwing the berries in random places of the run (also, Baby is slower, so we distract Betty and Bonnie by throwing one in a corner so we can throw a second one towards Baby).

Nighttime tales from Chookingham Palace.

As the youngest one (we think), Baby goes to bed about an hour before (official) sunset.

Betty & Bonnie, the slightly older two, often stay out for about an hour, checking their run and eating some more.

Today marks the three weeks of getting Baby, Betty & Bonnie.

Today is also the first day we have had two (2!!!!) eggs from the ladies.

Now to make them understand they need to get in the coop on time at night 🥺

Throwing the question into the ether, hoping someone sheds some light:

The last few days at least one of the chickens has not gotten in the coop in time (door closes at 40lx), and is distressed that they're not in. Baby is usually always in, and purring / rrrr-ing calling for whomever is not in. This after a week of some shenanigans but always being in time.

What can we do to have them all three get in on time?

Tonight Betty & Bonnie got stuck out of the coop after the door closed!

Luckily we opened the door and went out of the run, and they rushed to get back in, at which point we closed the door again, just in time for @jan to hear the sweet girls purr inside their coop 🥰

Nighttime shenanigans at Chookingham Palace: Baby plopped herself on the middle step of the stairs to the coop, not letting Betty or Lady Grey go up. Betty just jumped in 😅

Now they're doing their "go in, go out, take a look around" dance. But it is still bright outside.

Their chookesties Betty, Baby (Lady Brown) and Lady Grey(*) are learning slowly how to use the automatic feeder. They still scare themselves from time to time by stepping on the pedal too enthusiastically, but they're eating well.

And on nighttime shenanigans, today they've been very brief as well! I saw Lady Grey go out once, take a tour of the run, and go back in. Is she making sure everything is safe before tucking Betty & Baby in?

Saturday morning, happy the coop opens automatically and let the ladies out early.

And happy to see they're figuring out the automatic feeder (without a weight on the pedal to keep it open!). They have been home for 5 days, so it's a win 😊

You might not see but this is Betty, Lady Brown and Lady Grey next to each other going at the food.

During tonight's bedtime shenanigans (lady Brown goes in, Betty goes in, Lady Grey goes in, then Grey goes out, Betty goes out to get Grey in, repeat,...) we caught Lady Grey perched on top of the coop (120cm). We're so happy we went for a closed run 😂 we have jumping chickens.

During lunch I caught Lady Brown and Lady Grey eating from the (propped open) automatic feeder. One step forward 😊

Didn't see Betty at the feeder, but I'll assume she is gonna figure it out too.
