As the youngest one (we think), Baby goes to bed about an hour before (official) sunset.

Betty & Bonnie, the slightly older two, often stay out for about an hour, checking their run and eating some more.

Today marks the three weeks of getting Baby, Betty & Bonnie.

Today is also the first day we have had two (2!!!!) eggs from the ladies.

Now to make them understand they need to get in the coop on time at night 🥺

Throwing the question into the ether, hoping someone sheds some light:

The last few days at least one of the chickens has not gotten in the coop in time (door closes at 40lx), and is distressed that they're not in. Baby is usually always in, and purring / rrrr-ing calling for whomever is not in. This after a week of some shenanigans but always being in time.

What can we do to have them all three get in on time?

Tonight's chicken shenanigans:

Betty locked herself out of the coop. When I went out to check, she was perched on top of the feeder, singing her song, sounding actually scared(?).

I used a red lamp to let her see where to jump, and then point at the coop's door. Our three ladies are finally in the coop reunited and happy sounds were produced.

Tonight Betty & Bonnie got stuck out of the coop after the door closed!

Luckily we opened the door and went out of the run, and they rushed to get back in, at which point we closed the door again, just in time for @jan to hear the sweet girls purr inside their coop 🥰

Nighttime shenanigans at Chookingham Palace: Baby plopped herself on the middle step of the stairs to the coop, not letting Betty or Lady Grey go up. Betty just jumped in 😅

Now they're doing their "go in, go out, take a look around" dance. But it is still bright outside.

Their chookesties Betty, Baby (Lady Brown) and Lady Grey(*) are learning slowly how to use the automatic feeder. They still scare themselves from time to time by stepping on the pedal too enthusiastically, but they're eating well.

And on nighttime shenanigans, today they've been very brief as well! I saw Lady Grey go out once, take a tour of the run, and go back in. Is she making sure everything is safe before tucking Betty & Baby in?

(*) @jan & I are thinking of naming Lady Grey also something starting with B, so we'll have BBB at home 🙃
