@IndyRichard The same is very much happening in #Kernow as well, although we're still trying to get even devolution and constituent nation status, let alone proper meaningful independence :neocat_floof_sad:

"On my way to the Celtic enclave of Kernow yesterday, I was horrified to find teeming hordes of fighting age Angloids choking up traffic by the Tamar Bridge.
Many of these sexually voracious gimmegrants, bent on picking Polzeath clean of pasties, had surfboards strapped to their luxurious vehicles. I suppose these bleach-haired, acoustic guitar-wielding beach bums are all ‘doctors and engineers’ on their way to save our NHS, are they?
God knows what’s in store for our women and girls when this tidal wave of subhuman sewage breaks over the ancient heartland, flooding it with Germanic vowels and ignorant beliefs. Yet, once again, there is nothing in the lamestream media, we all know why."

TIL apparently a non-insignificant portion of the English left thinks that the Cornish independence movement is fascist, and especially racist?
I guess maybe some of that comes from the term "nationalism" which we deliberately try to avoid. But when people do use it, they mean it in the "our country deserves to exist" sense, not the "our country and its people are the best" Farage sense.
It's especially dumb since the Cornish independence movement basically is the Cornish antifa movement. Like they (we) are the same people. Not literally all of them ofc but anecdotally I would guess the overlap is >75%.

That talk "Cornish Giants" was very interesting. Apparently, the giant legends in Cornwall are metaphors for famous ancient lords. The alliances and enmities of the giants match those of the ancient clans. If you were a notable lord, you could become a giant in the oral history. The legends are very consistent, so it's believed that they are pseudo-histories of events in the Bronze (and early Iron) ages. The homes of giants match old hillforts also. The first references to giants as literal large people date from when the English started trying to eradicate the culture and history of Cornwall. So possibly these literal giants were invented to make the stories seem more far-fetched and thus escape the desolation of the Parliamentarians (they burned most of the Stannary Parliament (Cornwall's historic devolved government) library).

Reform UK are trying to ban the use of Cornish (and almost every other language used on the British Isles) in electoral contexts. This would effectively ban Cornish parties such as Mebyon Kernow (with Cornish-language names), hamper parties like the Green Party, and kill the (above board) Cornish devolution/independence movement. Not to mention parties in Alba, Tuaisceart Éirean, and Mannin, but I have less experience in those areas. Use of Cymraig would still be allowed.
Anyway, the official statement of Parti Gwyrdh Kernow (the Cornish branch of the Green Party) is "Kewgh dhe gyjya, hwi ladron diskians" ("Fuck off, you ignorant crooks").
