  1. Just finished watching an excellent presentation by Dorinda Bassey on "Modernizing Virtio GPU: A Rust-Powered Approach with vhost-device-gpu" at @KernelRecipes @redhat

  2. hey #kr2025 #kernelrecipes does someone have some experience with the DRM subsystem especially the part around mode management? I'm a (audio/video) synthesist and I got a hardware module that I'd like to tweak to expose some of the video timing parameters as a character device to be able to modulate them. I think the hardware can take it, but I'm wondering whether writing to a `struct drm_display_mode` through a simple character interface can be done.

  4. #kr2025 #kernelrecipes First day of kernel recipes, always a pleasure to attend this conference! This slide from Paul McKenney's talk reminds me a lot of concurrency issues we had in #haproxy :-)

  5. This year I had the honor to receive an invite to present at Kernel Recipes!

I will be presenting about my work with Real Time in Linux, including RT (KVM) Virtualization.

The presentation will happen this Tuesday (Sept. 23rd) at 16h00 CEST.

  6. Finally made it to Paris for #KernelRecipes — just 4 hours later than planned. Still waiting for the day Deutsche Bahn actually lets me catch my original connection 😅 Looking forward to the conference next week though!

  7. Kernel Recipes is very soon™; if we meet and you want a Rust for Linux sticker, just ask me ! (Courtesy of Miguel Ojeda) @KernelRecipes

  8. During Kernel Recipes, after his talk on memory counters in Linux, I asked @vbabka a naive question : how does the kernel sort between active and inactive pages? He kindly pointed to this talk at LPC in 2022 youtube.com/watch?v=0bnWQF7WQP

It turns out the answer is quite complex, as there are many special cases : the talk is 54 minutes long, and answering my question with an overview (skipping many details) takes 20+ minutes!

I learned a ton on how memory reclaim works, and I recommend you watch it if you like to understand the details of how your OS works.

  10. Well, yet another lesson learned and it was thundering!

Paul McKenney thanks a bunch for the erudition.

  11. This morning's Kernel Recipes live blog has already started over at kernel-recipes.org/en/2024/202

And Paul had people distribute candies to the audience. Why? It's still a mystery.

  12. My colleagues @gpiccoli and André Almeida will attend the Linux Kernel Recipes 2024 in Paris, between the 23rd and the 25th of September. Make sure to talk to him if you are interested in what Igalia works on that is related to the Linux kernel and general OS development.

  13. It seems the conference (which is held in Paris, every year) seeking an erudite, who can deliver the talk.

    Criterion:

One, applied that language construct in development, i.e. already sent an acceptable patch/patches upstream.

Second, one must be proficient in it to give some insight into its practicality.
