Everything after installing #kde_plasma has been easy sailing, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Is anyone else having trouble with the latest KDE Plasma update on a Dell Latitude (5430 running Fedora in my case)? At this point, I've had it break installing kirigami dev dependencies, and anything that has a newer version of qt6 as a dependency, and then after a reboot, it fails to display the login manager, and I have to switch to tty1 and force a downgrade to 4.5.6 (after plugging in an ethernet cable first, because it seems to be taking wireless networking down with it).

It's becoming very irritating. I had some 4.6 teething pains on another device, but not to the point that I couldn't launch a wayland session and operate the computer. Just the kind of minor stuff one might expect with a major update.

Since more than 10 years I help people to go away from ms with #opensuse and #kde_plasma. It is the best of all possibilities, because it is easy to learn. Yast is super for ex-Windows-users and tumbleweed is phantastic comfortable. Discover with Flatpak has so much software!
An old man of more than 70 years old has learn it!
Unfortunately opensuse with tumbleweed and kde/plasma is not so popular for #linux_beginners .
For myself I use opensuse with kde/plasma since 2008 🙂

I know there's a way to tell #KDE_Plasma that when a particular program is open, don't sleep. But I can't remember at all how.

RetroArch has a setting to prevent sleep when game is running, but I want it to stay awake when menu.

Went from Garuda Cinnamon to Garuda Mokka (KDE) for a couple of days, but it was too buggy so I went back to Cinnamon. Not sure if it's KDE Plasma's fault or Garuda's, as I had never tried KDE before. The stability of Cinnamon seems hard to beat though, and I have tried it on 4 distros at this point. #Linux #GarudaLinux #Cinnamon #KDE_plasma

I'm a Microsoftie from way back.

I'm working with Windows Server professionally for over 20 years.

I've been using the client OS since 3.1.

I don't like Windows anymore.
I don't want AI, i don't want ads.

I want to continue using my old, completely stable and adequate hardware.
I want things to simply work.

I switched to #Fedora with #kde_plasma
And I love it.

Good morning, Fediverse. I'm trying #LinuxMint out for the first time in about 15 years, and... why didn't anyone tell me #Cinnamon got this pretty?

I've recommended it as an onboarding point for people transitioning from Windows for ages, and I stand by that. It's stable, the Cinnamon defaults have a very Windows-7 feel, and it puts everything at your fingertips without being overwhelming the way #KDE_Plasma can be. (Also, I prefer the look and feel of GTK to QT, and feel like it does a better job of integrating the other, but YMMV.)

I wish they'd cut the Canonical chord (I do not trust them, although I outside of Snap not being fully open source, I couldn't tell you why), but otherwise I have no complaints so far. Performance is excellent, startup is quick, and the software manager is fantastic, although I would still prefer #Bazaar.

Early days yet, though. I'll give it a good run and get back to you.

@bruce I am asking because I just tried on KDE plasma #kde_plasma @kde Kaccount is buggy. It tries to connect to .../remote.phpp/... ; note the double p at the end of php. I noticed that through the logs.
It is hardcoded apparently (need to dive more into it).
So, I used the folder field of Dolphin in the Network section instead.
However, there is also a trick there:it is needed to use webdavs://servername:443/remote.php/dav/files/
A pop-up window asks then for credentials.
Once logged in, you can add your username at the end of the above path, to browse your folders.

Last night, I set up the new workstation for my father-in-law. He was using a roughly 10-year-old computer with Windows 10 and an old monitor. It has been replaced by an Intel N150 MiniPC and this HP monitor, which was on sale at the shopping center near his house.

The total cost for the setup shown (excluding headphones but including the monitor) was 240 euros.

It's running openSUSE Slowroll, which I'll update occasionally when we visit him.

He started working and exclaimed, "It's super fast!"

You don't need a lot of money to have a valid and performant workstation, especially if you choose the right OS.

My only regret is not being able to use one of the BSDs, as none of them were perfectly supported by the MiniPC.
