1. Kauai County: The core of Lowell is forecast to pass near Niihau
tonight and early Tuesday, and damaging hurricane conditions are
expected during that time, with the highest winds atop mountains and
on windward and leeward slopes. Large damaging waves will impact
exposed portions of the coastline, producing dangerous coastal
flooding and inundation of low-lying areas through early Tuesday.

2. Periods of heavy rainfall will increase in coverage over the
Hawaiian Islands today and continue through Wednesday. This
may produce significant flash flooding and mudslides, especially
across Kauai County and portions of the Big Island.

3. Oahu: Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin tonight.
Strong, damaging wind gusts could cause tree damage and power

From County of Hawaii on FB: This is a Civil Defense Message

This is a Hurricane Lowell Information Update for Monday September 7th at 6:30am.
As of 5:00 am this morning, Hurricane Lowell remains a category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of up to 115 mph. Gradual weakening is expected through tomorrow.

Lowell is currently located approximately 375 miles southwest of Lihue and 405 miles southwest of Honolulu and moving north northeast at 14mph.
Although Lowell is passing far to the west of Hawaii Island, it is forecast to continue to present with high surf and possibly heavy rains and flooding conditions.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for Hawaii Island through tomorrow afternoon. Parts of Hawaii Island may see rainfall amounts from 4 to 8 inches with locally higher amounts up to 12 inches. Residents in flood prone areas are advised to take precautions and in particular those areas of the Kau district that were severely impacted by Hurricane Lala.

A high surf advisory remains in effect for the south and east facing shores of all islands and the west facing shores of Hawaii Island through tomorrow night.

1. Lowell is forecast to pass west of Kauai County late Monday into
early Tuesday. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Kauai County, including Kauai and Niihau, where tropical storm conditions are possible beginning Monday. A Hurricane Watch has been issued for portions of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument from Nihoa to French Frigate Shoals.

2. Heavy rainfall associated with Hurricane Lowell will begin to impact the Hawaiian Islands Sunday afternoon and continue through early next week. Periods of heavy rain may produce significant flash flooding and mudslides, especially on Kauai and portions of the Big Island.

3. Large swells from Lowell are expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip current conditions across portions of the Hawaiian Islands during the next several days. Surf along exposed portions of Kauai County could also produce coastal flooding and inundation of low-lying areas late Monday into Monday night.
