The same people that are forcing books out of classrooms because teachers can't be trusted to decide what books their students have access, are the EXACT same people that support and trust teachers enough to arm them with deadly weapons in the classroom.

Earlier this week, I posted about Rep Nate Shannon introducing HB 4020, which would repeal all the retention language out of Michigan's 3rd Grade Reading Law. That bill is now in committee.

Now, Senator Dayna Polehanki has introduced SB 12 (2023), and it is the exact same legislation as HB 4020.

With both chambers now having identical bills in committee, this appears to be fast tracking!

Today, MI State Representative Nate Shannon introduced HB 4020(2023) which is an amendment to #Michigan Public Act 308 (2016), known as the 3rd Grade #Reading Law.
HB 4020 strikes the retention language out of Act, but leaves the rest intact.
This is a good start, but if we need to do more by updating the language regarding interventions to include science of reading!
